On 7 December 2021, Ambassador Zhang Ming, Head of the Chinese Mission to the EU, was invited to attend and delivered a keynote speech at the Year-end Dialogue with China-EU Business Leaders co-hosted by the EU-China Business Association (EUCBA) and the China Chamber of Commerce to the European Union (CCCEU). The virtual meeting brought together the EUCBA Chairman Jochum Haakma, CCCEU President Xu Haifeng, and representatives of more than 100 Chinese and EU businesses.
In his keynote speech, Ambassador Zhang said that thanks to the joint efforts of business communities, economic and trade cooperation between China and the EU grew strongly in 2021 when the global economy was facing great difficulties. The progress and resilience of bilateral economic and trade ties are supported by China and the EU further aligning their rules and leveraging their role as two major markets. In this new era, China will pursue greater openness at a higher level and share development opportunities with the world. China welcomes EU companies’ active participation in the Chinese market, and hopes that they can share in China’s development opportunities, and prosper in the Chinese market.
Chairman Haakma said that despite the impact of COVID-19, nearly half of European companies in China saw significant growth in their profits levels in 2020. Looking ahead, China will maintain a stable economic growth and its market will embrace a broader prospect. EU businesses will stay in China and continue to drive forward bilateral economic and trade cooperation. Mr. Xu Haifeng said that Chinese companies in Europe improved their performance steadily in 2021, and the Chinese business community is confident about the future of China-EU cooperation and willing to contribute actively to the dual green and digital transformation of the EU.
At the Q&A session, Ambassador Zhang also answered questions from participating business representatives.
Minister(Commerce) Peng Gang also attended the meeting.
